Your morning constitutional: crisis edition

A found poem for dark times.

The mood is grim, my friends, and I’m about to make it worse, for I have written a poem! This happens every once in a while—I notice certain phrases repeated over and over again in news headlines, so I mine them, fragment them, and turn them into something resembling poetry. Today’s pulls from news headlines that contain the phrase “constitutional crisis” and go as far back as 2015. Please enjoy, as much as anyone is ever able to enjoy such things.

A Crisis

This is what it looks like:
It arose gradually, then suddenly
Bitcoin is on the verge
Portugal is not having it
Every minor scandal is equal

We shouldn’t waste this
The election is likely
Forget Ted Cruz
Donald Trump can still trigger

Some conservatives admit
Texas is ginning up
West Virginia caught
Wisconsin GOP entertains
White House takes aim

This is not—
The U.S. government is not—
The U.S. military is not—

The anonymous Op-Ed writer fears
This is exactly how America tumbles
End the permanent campaign
Pelosi declares
Stephen Colbert isn’t sure
Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert wring laughs

But what happens now?
What lies ahead?
If Donald Trump pardons himself
If Donald Trump fires Robert Mueller
If Trump fires Rosenstein
Will Roberts court show the courage of John Marshall?

Great. Here comes another.
